“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace that God has given us, let us use them..” ~Romans 12:4-6
Our daily operations are a prime example of how God uses each person’s unique gifts to accomplish our mission of evacuating women and children.
On our trips into the hot zone taking in food and relief supplies and coming out with evacuees, we often have 8-12 hours of driving, one way. Typically we send three vans together with two people each. There’s a leader for the whole group, plus a team leader for each van, four drivers, a photographer, a translator, and another support person. Once a team works together several times, they develop their own rhythm that works best for them.
At our field office, we have four or five individuals who are responsible for logistics.
We have someone monitoring the teams’ radio traffic and movements, and continually checking the team’s route for developing security threats.
Another person is managing the overall big picture. This person is continually communicating with people in the US, networking with other organizations, pushing into potential new areas of operation, tracking down opportunities, and evaluating our ongoing needs each day.
One volunteer is responsible for maintenance and shopping for the base and the evacuation teams. Lastly, there are several other support people that work on developing government relationships, and providing support and stability for our office and operations.
The key that holds us all together is God and our ability to share, debrief and pray together. A highlight for our team is simply being together. We are not all together that often, but whenever we are, it is a good day.
