Ukraine: Resilience

The elderly of Ukraine continue to inspire me. They are strong, determined, and resilient. Age does not hold them back. Many elderly are seen walking the streets, cane in one hand, bags in the other. Despite their lives being completely uprooted by the war, they continue on. Some have left their homes behind and are trying to begin a new life at an old age. I think of the older lady who came to our shelter. She had no family with her, yet she was smiling and joyful. Luckily, she got a happy outcome and has now moved to Hansen Village, where she can hopefully start a new life! Not everyone gets this happy ending. I think about all the elderly who are still trapped in their homes in the active war zones. Will they make it through the winter? Do they have people looking out for them?
One thing I do know, God has not forgotten them.

Isaiah 46:4 “I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.
