Myanmar; Reconstruction Begins

It has now been 3 weeks since the earthquake, and it is amazing to witness the opportunities that God has been laying before us. Considerable travel restrictions were already in place prior to the earthquake, due to the ongoing civil war; and restrictions only became tighter in the aftermath of the quake. Despite this, we were granted access to the Inle Lake region. This area consists of several hundred small villages, and larger village tracts, scattered around the lake. A significant number of these villages consist of houses constructed on stilts in the water. These homes were disproportionately affected, as the underwater foundations shifted during the quake. This caused many houses to lean, and others to collapse completely.

We have been blessed to connect with local groups in the villages who are eager to begin reconstruction. A dry shelter is essential with the rainy season coming in a few weeks, and most villages have little dry ground. Because of this, we are assisting the locals with tools and materials needed to straighten and repair their damaged homes. It is encouraging to see the locals work together as they recover from the eathquake. Join us in praying that God’s love would shine through our team as relationships are built.
