Jamaica: The Joy of Jesus

Since I’ve been here in Jamaica, I’ve been reminded again and again of the value of speaking blessings over people. There have been quite a few times where our team was doing a project for someone, intending to bless them, and they, in return, spoke blessings over us.
One time stands out above the rest. We were building a new house for an elderly gentleman. He lost his house in the storm and was so grateful that God provided a way for him to have a new house. His old house was a 10×12, and the one we were building for him was a 12×12, so he was excited about the extra space.
On our lunch break, he took the time to encourage us with a mini sermon, just proclaiming the goodness of God over and over again. He was telling us that our life is not our own; it’s just lent to us. And if we ever wonder what our purpose is, coming here and doing this work was it.
When the house was finished, we gathered inside to pray a blessing over him and his new house. After we prayed for him, he proceeded to speak blessings over us, quoting Numbers 6:24–26: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”
Even though this man had lost his house in the storm and didn’t own many worldly possessions, the light and joy of Jesus were so evident in his life, making him abundantly rich.
We were able to build him a new house because of people like you who gave of their financial resources. Thank you so much! But the reality continues. There are still so many people who don’t have their own dry space to sleep at night. If you would like to contribute to this project, check out the link below.
