Some days, I wonder how much of a difference we’re actually making. We see so many people impacted by the war, and it feels like there’s always more—more people in places you thought no one could still be. And with the Russians advancing, more and more villages are becoming ghost towns. People come out of these places with nowhere to go. Refugee housing is overwhelmed by the sheer number of people forced to leave their homes.
But this week, we had the opportunity to bring four elderly people to Hansen Village, located just west of Kyiv. It’s a mission that has built an incredible community for refugees who’ve had to evacuate due to the war.
We left in the morning, a little unsure how things would go—traveling with four elderly people for seven hours. I had heard Hansen Village was a good place, but what we saw when we arrived was truly amazing. Each of them was given a beautiful place to live. Seeing how the staff welcomed and cared for them reminded me that, even though it might not always feel like we can help everyone, what we do does make a difference.
It was just so good to see these people being cared for, loved, and truly safe. And in moments like that, you realize—every little bit does matter
