A Note of Thankfulness from an Evacuee
Yesterday, we evacuated a sweet grandma and her dog. She was thin, frail, and needed help just to walk. After we got her safely to a relative’s home and finished unloading, she slowly made her way over to me, wrapped her arm around me, and said, “Thank you so much for getting me.”
Then she tried to hand me some money. I told her, “You don’t owe us anything.”
But she insisted, trying to stuff it in my pocket: “Yes, you need it—for your health.”
I gently pushed it back and said, “No, Grandma, you will need it. There are people in other parts of the world who love you and want to help. They paid for this road trip.”
She teared up and said, “Thank you, thank you. May God protect you.”
