While in London, Kentucky, I started talking with a homeowner—an older lady—and quickly realized she just needed someone to listen.

One thing she said really stuck with me: “If you go by what you read, you can lose your faith in humanity. But since the storm, my faith in humanity has gone up by 500%.”

She shared how overwhelmed she was—in a good way—by the support. People kept showing up asking if she needed anything. She received so much food and help that she didn’t even know what to do with it all.

The sheer number of people and the generosity they brought with them was incredible to witness and be a part of. It was a powerful reminder that people do care and truly want to help however they can.
