Hurricane Debby 8/15

[Hurricane Debby – Sarasota Florida]
This afternoon, I had the chance to sit down with a friend I met the other day and hear about her experience with the flooding. She and her husband are from Indiana but also have a home here in Pinecraft. They heard about all the rain that had gone through the area and also the flooding in a lot of the homes. But they figured they might as well wait a few days until more of the water had drained away before traveling down to check on the damage. However, one of their friends who lives next door called them and told them how they need to get down there now to take care of things. So that evening they packed up after work and drove down through the night, getting there late in the afternoon the next day. The water had receded by then but everything in its aftermath was left covered in a muddy grime and sludge. The ceiling panels had opened up in one place and bits and pieces of it lay on the table beneath. Pots and pans sat in the cabinets filled with the stagnant water. And so the process began of sorting through everything in the house, scrubbing down the entire place, and cleaning out all their belongings. To dry out the house, they had several dehumidifiers running inside that helped significantly to dry out the place faster and being able to keep more of their belongings! In less than two days they had pumped out over a hundred gallons of water!
Some of the floor tiles have started to crack up in several different places so they will need to start working on repairing that and also working on some of the cabinets and walls. Despite all that has happened in the past week and the things they have lost, its encouraging to see the positivity and smiles on their faces!
