It’s hard to believe that it’s already been one month since I left for Ukraine. Time sure flies when you’re having fun.
If I had to pick a most memorable moment, it would have to be the night we slept in a hospital without heat. It was less than three miles from Russian-occupied territory. I woke up several times during the night by nearby shelling and the flares that eerily lit up the night for a few minutes at a time. The staff of the hospital were so concerned that they put us in a back room. If the hospital was shelled, we would have a better chance of making it out alive and well from there. But thanks to our great God, we didn’t experience any direct hits to the hospital. And this is only one of many experiences I’ve had this month… if it weren’t for the peace of God, I wouldn’t have been able to do it.
I am thoroughly enjoying my time in Ukraine and haven’t regretted my decision to come at all yet. I’m also getting to know the amazing team here. Serving alongside with them definitely feels like a privilege and I look forward to spending the next few months here with them. -KILMER – (from one of our volunteers on the ground)
