Fundraising Update 7/13

Of the $150,000 we need to raise for Thailand, we have reached $7,469, with eleven generous individuals who started a recurring donation to help on an ongoing basis. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to help us with funding the orphanage!
We’re still looking for more individuals and churches who want to join us and help sponsor the work in the orphanage.
A huge part of the project is in funding food for the orphanage. When we arrived, the orphanage’s funds were stretched so tightly that the children’s diet consisted entirely of white rice and weak broth… with an occasional vegetable or a bone. That was their diet, and even at that, the lady who runs the orphanage was still unable to fully cover the food expenses. She couldn’t bear turning down the Burmese orphans or having the children go without food, so she started going into debt. Thailand is notorious for sex trafficking, and these children are at high risk for being trafficked if she would not take them in.
In the past few weeks, we’ve been doing treatments for scabies and lice because all the children had a serious infestation of both. Overall, we’ve definitely seen an improvement of the children’s health, but it will take some time for the effects of the malnutrition to disappear.
Even more than the physical needs of food and medical attention, these children are starved for love and attention. Just by being there and caring for them, our volunteers help fill a need that their parents could not or would not fill. Pray for our volunteers as they care for and pour love into these children. Pray that energy and love would be restored and multiplied to them, as they give it away. Pray that the children would be able to feel the love of God, who is a Father to the Fatherless, and experience healing from their traumatic past.
Whether you donate, pray for or volunteer with us, we are incredibly grateful for you! This is much bigger than what we can do alone and your support means more to us than words can tell.
