It’s a privilege to be a part of the work in Haiti. As I think over just the events of the last week, I am moved to tears. Friday, when we took food into the prison, we were met with cheers of excitement and testimonies from the prisoners. They know Friday is the day they are going to get a good meal, that the food we bring is what is holding them strong.
Yesterday, we held our first Church Service in the prison. It was an emotional time both for myself and the prisoners. Almost all the participants thanked us for “taking time for them”. One man said that during the eight years he spent in prison, no pastor had ever come and spent time with him. They made it clear that they want us to continue holding a church service in the prison.
In other areas where we are doing food distributions, we are routinely met with stories of hungry children from the parents. They are faced with worse difficulties in providing for their family than they have never seen before. They sometimes hug us, sometimes just hold our hand tight, but they always say “Thank You! “ and “God sent you.”
