The conditions in Montego Bay following the hurricane have been challenging. The cityscape is scattered with twisted metal roofing, downed power lines and fallen trees, splintered wooden frames and debris.
Most roads in the city are relatively accessible by now as debris is cleared or pushed aside, however traffic remains a challenge as people try to find sources of food, clean drinking water, fuel and cash assistance.
Chaos at gas stations as crowds and long fuel lines form as people wait hours with jugs and buckets for scarce gasoline, needed for transportation and running generators as over 90% of the city has no power.
Flood damage is evident in some of the lowland neighborhoods of the city, with some streets still waterlogged, while in areas where the water has subsided residents are hard at work clearing their homes of mud and debris.
Water scarcity is a big issue as water systems have been damaged in the hurricane cutting most of the city from access to running water. Residents are reliant on water distributions and also resort to boiling rainwater.
