Hurricane Melissa makes landfall in Jamaica

On Tuesday morning October 28, Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Jamaica as a Category 5 Hurricane with winds calculated at 185 MPH. The full scope of the damage is still being realized, since communication has been limited because of power and network outages on the island. But we do know that Jamaica has been hit hard. The powerful storm moved slowly across the island, devastating towns and cities in its path. Hospitals and roads have sustained significant damage, combined with extensive damage to the power grid the country’s emergency infrastructure has taken a major hit.

PCCR is actively preparing to deploy to Jamaica. Our team is finalizing flights, and plans to leave as soon as the details are confirmed. PCCR is planning to deploy alongside Chazak, connecting with Jamaica Relief Ministries when they arrive in Jamaica. But all funding will be handled separately. We will publish our Jamaica Response Fundraising Page as soon as travel to Jamaica is confirmed. If you are interested in supporting the Jamaica Response with PCCR follow along for that update soon.
