The last two weeks have been quite intense in some ways, and yet we have also had a lot of fun. We have been cleaning out houses with a foot of mud in the basements and crawl spaces, helping people get their wet drywall and insulation out, doing lots of cleanup outside, getting trailer houses out of creeks, and cleaning up a lot of debris out of yards. It seemed like there was a lot of people that needed help, and yet it took some effort to find those people because the flooding was spread over a vast area. Some of the towns close to the main roads and bigger towns have already been taken care of by other organizations or by locals helping each other.
In these areas, people seem to know each other very well and stick together, which is amazing to see. Homeowners have been very grateful for the help we are able to give, and often we get to see an obvious change on their faces by the time we leave. It is incredible to watch hope spring forth as we are there helping clean up, as well as listening to their stories and praying for them.
Overall, it is fun to partner with God in bringing hope to these people and sharing His love with them!
