Is it ok to say the best things in life are simple? It’s interesting to me how much of a distraction things can cause in a person’s normal everyday life. For example, we’re living in a small Ukrainian village. The kind of village where everyone knows everybody. While working on a family’s house one day, I took notice of the simplicity of the house and lifestyle. Most things were built by hand. A flourishing garden and beautiful flowers show the results of hard work. There was time to sit and drink tea. Time seemed to slow down. It felt so peaceful without all the normal social obligations. It made me think of the simplicity of God’s gift of love to us. It’s not complicated. There are no hidden motives or regulations on how much love you deserve. You don’t have to understand the reason or comprehend the depth – it’s constant and never changing. What he says he is exactly who he is. It’s as simple as that. We complicate it by trying to replicate what can only be filled by Him. The distractions keep us from slowing down and truly seeing the effects of His love.
