In this kind of work, many people want to help—but if you don’t know Jesus, you often end up being the one who needs help.
I overheard this comment recently, and it made me stop and reflect on where I turn for strength, and how my relationship with Jesus shapes the work I’m doing here.
When something is new and exciting, it’s easy to rely on our own momentum. We can be doing many good and courageous things with the best of intentions.
But as time goes on, and hard days and frustrations come, it becomes clear how much we need a source of strength beyond ourselves. I need guidance for the direction of my life, and I need the Spirit of God to fill me—to shape my heart with compassion and a willingness to serve those around me.
I’m reminded that true endurance doesn’t come from self-reliance or simply pushing through difficult days, but from surrender. When my strength runs out, His never does—and that is what allows me not only to keep going, but to love and serve others well.
