Thailand Update 6/08

We had the unexpected privilege of taking one of the little girls from the home to the Hospital. One of our volunteers noticed she was sitting by herself with her head down at the home and when they checked on her they felt that she had a high fever. After talking with the staff and finding out out the school nurse was gone for the day, they allowed us to take her home and see if we could care for her a little better, due to there being little staff at the home and 500 children to look after.
Several days went by and she continued to have on and off fevers with a progressive cough. We were then given permission to take her to the hospital where they diagnosed her with a lung infection that appeared on x-ray to have spots on her lungs! They kept her there for 3 days with our team taking shifts to be with her around the clock. She was released with an updated x-ray showing no more spots on her lungs and her fever was gone!! Praise the Lord!
It was wonderful to be there for this little girl in such a vulnerable place. She handled everything so well, as if she had been through worse. She was dropped off at the home when she was 4 years old and has learned to cope with her surroundings. She didn’t say much when we met her, but now she smiles and says a few words in Thai.
She’s so beautiful and I hope she felt God’s love, maybe for the first time in the hours she spent with our team. I look forward to seeing her and all the children as we go back to the home on Monday!
