Myanmar; Repairing Damaged Homes

As the earthquake response moves into the next stage of recovery, we have begun assisting communities with rebuilding. We are providing building materials and lumber to families whose homes are damaged, with entire villages working together to repair the homes. After using chain blocks to straighten the house frames, braces are placed on the structures for stability and other damages can then be addressed. The repair cost per home is $325.

We are also rebuilding several homes that were destroyed, and housed families without a means to support themselves. The cost to rebuild a wood frame home is $1,700, with some materials being reused from the previous house. The cost to rebuild a bamboo house is $500, with the metal roof and hardwood floor being reused.
