Gratitude

On my first day working with the team, we visited an older man’s house who, for the time being, was living in his neighbor’s cellar. His house had no roof because everything had caved in during the storm, leaving him with no shelter if it were to rain. It was a very small house, consisting of basically two small rooms. As we were putting tarp on his roof, I heard him inside beginning to quote scripture. He recited passage after passage consecutively, without pause. It was astounding to hear. His gratitude for our help humbled me. His roof was far from ideal, but we did what we could to give him some sort of shelter. It was far from perfect, but he was so grateful. It reminded me that it’s not where you live, but the attitude you live in, that makes the difference.
