Last week I visited the team in Ukraine and was able to see first hand into the work the work they are doing to help the people affected by the war.
While riding on the train from Poland into Ukraine I was able to witness the stark reality of the consequences of the war. Soldiers in military garb traveling to the front lines. Some of them saying goodbye to loved ones before stepping onto the train, not knowing if they will ever see each other again. Others, I observed staring out the window into the unknown. Ominously aware of the danger awaiting them. I couldn’t help but wonder about the thoughts that were surely going through their minds.
During my time in Ukraine I was able to speak to people who are very closely involved in the war. In my opinion the war is far from over unless someone intervenes and stops the aggressor.
The effects of war are evident as people continue to flee their homes in hopes of finding peace and safety in a different location. Many people need to flee before knowing where they will end up, not having any connections to a better place. While I was there I saw the team evacuate a young girl who had no one to turn to for help in her precarious situation.
There is a huge need for shelters and homes for the people evacuating the front. Currently we are assisting in evacuations and providing shelter for evacuees. Pray for the team as they look for more options to help these people to safety. Pray for the evacuees, that more opportunities would become available to them.
While I’m grateful for all that has been done, the people of Ukraine need our help now more than ever. The war is a long, brutal, and drawn out affair that has taken the lives of countless souls. As we enter into the holiday season, remember Jesus who has come to give us life as the reason we celebrate. Remember the blessing of your loved ones and remember the people who have been separated from theirs in a brutal and senseless fashion.
Sincerely Merv King
